Master Key is a comprehensive cross-platform typing tutor that aims to improve your typing skills by providing detailed readouts and statistics on your progress. With a rather basic interface, Master Key takes you through a wide range of drills to enhance your typing speed.

One of the standout features of Master Key is its versatility in supporting various keyboard layouts, including U.S., Dvorak, French, and German. Additionally, you have the option to import your own text files, eBook pages, and even create custom drills.

Setting up Master Key allows you to choose whether to store pupil files individually on your hard drive or in the Applications folder for network accessibility. Although the interface may appear dated, it offers helpful tips and hints to prepare you before you start typing. Simply click on "New Pupil" and enter your name to get started.

Master Key provides a vast selection of drills and sub-drills to choose from. As you type, the interface displays accuracy, words per minute (WPM), and error dials at the top. An error noise alerts you if you make a mistake. In my test with the QWERTY layout, the objective was to type letters and the spacebar as quickly as possible.

Once you finish a drill, Master Key provides incredibly in-depth score readings and statistics. Additionally, there is a game called ParaTyper, which involves saving paratroopers as you type. However, access to this game may require an upgrade to the full version.

Despite its simple and dated appearance, Master Key is a comprehensive typing tutor that covers every aspect of improving your typing skills. Its standard OS interface and the ability to use plain text files make it a versatile tool for anyone looking to learn or enhance their typing abilities.
